“Wendell” and “Champ” Retire from Sheriff’s Office

Posted on February 17, 2015

February 17, 2015, Monroe, NC – The Union County Board of Commissioners on Monday passed a resolution authorizing the conveyance of retired Union County Sheriff’s Office drug dogs “Wendell” and “Champ” to two Sheriff’s deputies.

Because the Sheriff's Office owned "Wendell” and “Champ", upon their retirement, the canines became surplus property of the county. In order for the dogs to be purchased by deputies who handled and worked with them during their service to the Sheriff’s Office, commissioners had to authorize conveyance of the dogs to the deputies.
