Union County Library Expands Services

UCPL expands servicesStarting Monday, May 3, the library will expand services and resume certain operations that were temporarily changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • All library locations will be open for browsing including the Waxhaw Library. Operating hours will be Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • The Dickerson Genealogy and Local History Room at the Monroe Library is open by appointment only by calling 704.283.8184 ext. 5236.
  • Meeting rooms will reopen for booking for groups up to 100 people. Physical distancing must be maintained.
  • Returned items will no longer be quarantined. Patrons will have three days of grace before an item is considered overdue. If a patron returns an item on the fourth day or after, an overdue fee will be charged from the due date. If the item is returned before the three days of grace expire, no overdue fee is incurred.
  • Fines have been reinstated. However, if you incur late charges due to financial hardship or complications related to COVID-19, those charges will be waived.
  • Donations of material items will be accepted on a limited basis. This includes books, magazines, DVDs, etc. For large donations, please call the library prior to making the donation at 704.283.8184 to schedule a time to make the donation.
  • Public computers are available for adults and children to use on a first-come, first-served basis. Adult computer use is limited to three hours per day and children may use the computers for 30 minutes with additional time if there is no wait.
  • Item holds are limited to five items per account.
  • All costs for printing and copying will resume on June 1.

Services that will continue include:

  • Curbside service will be available at every library location during operating hours. To learn more about our curbside service, visit the library's website.
  • Chat with a librarian online from the library’s website during operating hours.
  • Wi-Fi will remain available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • After-hours book lockers remain as hold pick-up options in all library locations.
  • Courtesy library account renewals will be given for six months without requiring proper verification.

All safety precautions, sanitation procedures and patron expectations are still in effect. When visiting the library, for the health and safety of everyone, we ask that you observe the following expectations:

  • Please do not enter if you have a cough, fever, shortness of breath, chills or sore throat.
  • Stay at least 6 feet from other people and library staff.
  • Wear a face mask or covering if it is difficult to maintain 6 feet distance from others.
  • Use self-service options. Library staff are not able to assist patrons in close proximity.
