It is time to start thinking about Christmas! The Union County Christmas Bureau is now accepting applications from individuals and families seeking assistance this upcoming holiday season. The program is also in need of support through volunteering, donating gifts or sponsoring a child or family.

The Union County Christmas Bureau is donor-funded and volunteer-driven. It provides Christmas gifts and food to families who need a helping hand. In 2020, Union County Christmas Bureau served 2,161 families, worked with 406 volunteers, and distributed 16,129 gifts.

Apply for Assistance

To be eligible for assistance, there must be children in the household, age 18 and younger, at the time of application, or a disabled or senior adult receiving income through Social Security or Medicaid.

This year, the application process is over the phone. To apply, call 704.296.4828 Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Applications will be accepted through Nov. 19. When applying over the phone, please be prepared to provide the last four digits of social security numbers for all individuals in the household who have them, as well as the monthly gross income for all individuals in the household, including salaries, types of benefits, child support, etc. Applicants should also be prepared to give the date of birth, clothing sizes, and gift ideas for all children age 18 and younger.

Volunteer to Help

Become one of the hundreds of individuals, groups and families that come together October through December to help local families in need during the Christmas season. Volunteer roles include administrative, volunteer coordination and sorting and distributing donations.

We are seeking volunteers who have excellent computer skills and can commit to at least four to eight hours each week between Oct. 4 and Dec. 3. We ask for volunteers to be able to help in 4-hour shifts (8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.). If you are interested, email Volunteer Services Coordinator Gloria Haney

In mid-November and December, we will need volunteers to sort toys and distribute to families.

Donate This Holiday Season

You can organize a toy drive at your school, church or business. We need toys and gifts for children from infants to 18 years old. We also provide food for our families, so a food drive is a perfect way to help. You can donate individually or as a group. Call us at 704.296.4312 to find out how you can help us this Christmas season. If you prefer to give a monetary donation, click here to send a donation via PayPal.

Another way to help is by sponsoring a family. Partner with your family, friends, colleagues or church to sponsor a family. For sponsorship information, call us at 704.296.4312.
