Library’s Year in Review: Usage Up in 2019

2019 Library Statistics InfographicThe Union County Public Library collects and reports usage statistics yearly for the State Library of North Carolina. These statistics tell the story of how the library, its facilities, and collections were used from July 2018 - July 2019. Some highlights from the statistics are:

  • 70% of the Union County population has a library card.
  • There was a 10% increase in registered users when compared to the previous year.
  • Programs inside the library grew by 5%.
  • 68.4% of the library’s programs are for children.
  • 7.2% of the library’s programs are teen programs; the number of teen programs grew by 12% compared to last year.
  • 24.4% of the library’s programs are adult programs.
  • The average attendance per program is 24.1.
  • Meeting room usage increased by 12% over the previous year.
  • The library has 160 public computers and computer use was up by almost 5% over last year.
  • Interactions with patrons increased by 17% over last year.
  • The cost per circulation is .58 cents.
  • Only 7% of our circulation is digital items.
  • Total circulation included 232,649 adult items, 37,036 teen items, and 355,622 children’s items.
  • Total collection use was up by 10% when compared to last year.
