Posted on November 18, 2021

400x300_Comp_Volunteers.pngUnion County is inviting residents to serve on one of six committees to help implement the Union County 2050 Plan. These committees will do research and develop recommendations for six issues identified in the plan. These committees will meet monthly for approximately six months. Committee recommendations will be presented to the Planning Board and Board of Commissioners for consideration. The committees will each address one of the following issues:

  1. Storm Water Standards: Identify standards to decrease storm runoff from new development.
  2. School Siting Requirements: Set regulations and requirements to site schools in areas that will minimize undesirable impacts such as traffic, industrial proximity and non-uniform development patterns.
  3. Open Space Requirements in Rural Areas: Develop a set standard for open space in subdivisions within parts of the County designated as rural by the comprehensive plan.
  4. Cluster Standards in Rural Areas: Develop regulations for clustered developments in parts of the County designated as rural by the comprehensive plan.
  5. Litter Task Force: Create strategies, regulations and plans to prevent and control litter.
  6. Broadband Internet Access: Research and develop strategies to expand broadband internet access to under-served areas.

“We've heard from more than 1,000 Union County residents while developing this plan,” said Lee Jenson, Planning Director. “We now need their help to identify standards and policies to implement the plan.”

Residents are invited to submit an application online. Applications are being accepted through December 15, 2021. Planning staff will make recommendations to the Board of Commissioners at its January 3, 2022, meeting.
