The North Carolina Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a federally-funded program that provides a one-time vendor payment, as long as funds are available, to help eligible households pay their heating bills.

The time frame to apply for this benefit is December 1st (households with someone 60 or older) through March 31st of each year.

Public Assistance applicants and recipients are provided an opportunity to register to vote or to make changes in their registrations when they come to DSS.

The completed registration forms are sent to the Board of Elections for processing. Additional information may be found at Union County's Elections web page.

North Carolina youth employment work are permits which all youth between the ages of 14-18 are required to obtain to be employed.

Work permits are available at all high schools in Union County. Inquire at the school's career development coordinator.

Employers may obtain a supply of work permits by calling the North Carolina Department of Labor at 1-800-LABOR NC.
