Clinics are administered by Union County Veterinarian Dr. Jeff Broadaway and are designed to make it easy and affordable for pet owners to stay current on this required vaccination.

North Carolina law requires all dogs, cats, and ferrets over four months of age to be vaccinated against rabies.


Upcoming Clinics | Fall 2026

Fall 2026 clinic dates will be announced later this year. 

Union County Public Health hosts low-cost rabies vaccine clinics twice in the spring and twice in the fall each year. Exact dates are announced in advance through the County website, Horizon e-newsletter, social media, and digital signs.

Cost

  • Rabies vaccine — $10, cash only
  • Microchip — $20, cash only

Supply is limited. No appointments, First-come, first-served basis.


Who Can Participate

Dogs, cats and ferrets are eligible. Pets must be at least 12 weeks old to receive the rabies vaccine.

  • If your pet's previous rabies vaccination has expired, they will receive a one-year vaccine rather than the standard three-year dose.

What to Know Before You Arrive

  • All animals must remain in your vehicle throughout the clinic.
  • Please have your driver's license available when you check in.
  • Cash only, exact change appreciated.
  • Arrive early, supply is limited and the clinic closes when supply runs out.

Bringing something extra? Union County Animal Outreach is accepting donations of pet food and supplies at the clinic. Donations go directly to pets in need right here in Union County.

How We Communicate Upcoming Clinics

Union County Public Health hosts rabies vaccine clinics twice in the spring and twice in the fall. Exact dates are confirmed and announced in advance each season through the following channels:

  • County website: this page is updated with upcoming clinic dates as soon as they are confirmed.
  • Union County Horizon: our community e-newsletter includes clinic announcements in the Events and Healthy Living sections. 
  • Social media: Events are created on the Union County Facebook and Nextdoor accounts.
  • Digital signs: Information is displayed on monitors at the Human Services building and other County locations.
