For Healthcare Providers

Reporting communicable diseases is required by North Carolina law and is essential to protecting public health in Union County. The Union County Communicable Disease (CD) Team relies on timely, accurate reports from healthcare providers to monitor disease trends, identify outbreaks, and coordinate a community response.

What to Report

North Carolina requires all licensed healthcare providers — including physicians, nurses, veterinarians, coroners, laboratory directors, and school health personnel — to report cases of 80+ designated communicable diseases.
