Services

The Union County Public Health Maternity Clinic provides prenatal care to residents of Union and Anson County to help ensure the health and well-being of both the mother and baby throughout a woman's pregnancy.

All prenatal visits are completed on-site. Appointments for ultrasounds will be scheduled at a local obstetric office.

Delivery services are provided by Atrium Health Union OB/GYN providers at the Atrium Health Union Hospital in Monroe and by Atrium Health Women's Care Creek Pointe Ob/GYN providers Atrium Health Union West in Matthews.

Mission

The mission of the UCPHD Maternity Clinic is to provide prenatal services to residents of Union and Anson County who would not otherwise have access to these services due to financial concerns or lack of insurance.

Payments

Fees for services for uninsured patients will be determined by a sliding fee scale based on family income. Patients may be eligible for Emergency Medicaid to assist with the costs of delivery.

Appointments

Appointments for the initial maternity intake visit are scheduled with a nurse, usually on a Wednesday or Friday.

Throughout the pregnancy, provider visits are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Frequency of Visits

Your first prenatal visit will be with a nurse to provide pregnancy education and to obtain a detailed medical, family and social history.

After the intake visit, you will be scheduled for a physical exam with a maternity provider and will then begin regular prenatal appointments.

The typical schedule for prenatal appointments is as follows:

  • Once a month until the 28th week of pregnancy
  • Once every two weeks during weeks 28-35
  • Once a week from week 36 until delivery

If any high risk conditions or complications develop during your pregnancy, your appointments may be scheduled more frequently and you may be seen twice a week toward the end the pregnancy.
