Procurement Services Overview

Procurement provides centralized procurement services to all Union County departments. Contracts are awarded to the lowest responsible bidder, taking into account quality, performance, and the time specified in proposals.

Bid Advertisement Requirements

According to state law, applicable bid advertisements must:

1. State the time and place where plans and specifications of proposed work—or a complete description of the equipment, supplies, materials, or services—may be obtained.

2. State the time and place for opening of the proposals.

3. Reserve to the board or governing body the right to reject any or all proposals.

Electronic Advertisements

Electronic advertisements for bidders, as approved by the Union County Board of Commissioners, are available on the Current Bids page. These advertisements contain the information required by law.

Union County Procurement Policy

The Procurement Division provides centralized procurement services to all County departments. We follow applicable North Carolina General Statutes and Union County Procurement Policy when purchasing goods, construction or repair services, and other services.

This Doing Business Overview Guide identifies purchasing thresholds by dollar amount. Union County’s procurement practices are based on open competition and transparency, supporting the goals of securing value and promoting fairness.
