A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computerized system that can be used to create, store, manage, analyze and display geographically referenced information. A GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns and trends in the form of maps, reports and charts.

To view data or to create maps and reports within Union County, you can access UC Atlas by clicking the map below.  UC Atlas is our online interactive mapping tool.  For help with utilizing UC Atlas, you can contact County GIS staff by sending an email to GISHelp@unioncountync.gov

GIS and Mapping Plan for Union County

Union County developed a master plan to have an enterprise system where all county departments can access to GIS software and data. Rather than maintaining incompatible hard copy maps, each department maintains information in an enterprise Geographic Information System.  The Union County GIS team supports data development, mapping, and application development efforts that support various County agencies and departments.

What types of data can I find on your maps for download?

There are many types of data, including information about highways, drainage basins, libraries, zip codes, polling sites and much more. Visit our links to our Downloadable GIS Data webpage or our Standard Maps page.

Can I request custom maps?

Digital maps are available by request. Please call Bryan McFadden at 704-292-2619 or email the GIS Department at GISHelp@unioncountync.gov with map requests. Maps will be provided in PDF format and if a hard copy print is required, it can be printed by the customer at a print shop such as The UPS Store, Staples, or similar. If the map requires creating new data, modification of existing data, or specialized analysis, the requirements will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Completion of the map will be at the discretion of the GIS department, given the availability of Union County GIS staff and workload for other County Departments.
