Your Health Starts with Movement

Staying active doesn’t mean you need to run marathons or spend hours at the gym. Small steps, such as walking around your neighborhood, dancing in your living room, or playing catch with your kids, can lead to significant health benefits.
Why Physical Activity Matters
Regular movement can:
  • Boost your energy and mood
  • Reduce your risk of chronic disease
  • Improve your sleep
  • Support a healthy weight
  • Strengthen your muscles and bones
And the best part? It’s never too late to start.

Tips for Every Age

Staying active is one of the best ways to support your physical and mental health, no matter your age or ability. The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans offer helpful recommendations for how much movement we need to stay healthy and strong:
Older Adults & Those with Health Conditions
Physical activity is crucial at every stage of life. For individuals who are pregnant, living with chronic conditions, or have disabilities, it is important to stay as active as you’re able and talk with a healthcare provider about what’s safe and best for you.

Visit our Empowering Seniors with Essential Services page.
Adults
Adults are encouraged to engage in 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week, which can be broken down into 30-minute sessions over five days.

Activities such as walking the dog, gardening, dancing, or lifting weights contribute to overall health and well-being.

Youth (Ages 6-17)
Children and teenagers should aim for at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day. Engaging in activities like running, biking, jumping rope, or participating in team sports such as soccer and basketball can help build strong muscles and bones.
Preschoolers (Ages 3-5)
For young children, at least 3 hours of active play daily is recommended. This active play supports growth, learning, and the development of healthy habits. Activities might include dancing, climbing, or outdoor exploration.
