Register to Speak

Members of the public may address the Board of Commissioners during board meetings. Speakers are encouraged to register in advance.

Click here to register to speak or call 704-283-3835.

While advanced registration is not required, speakers will be called in the order in which they register. Anyone who does not register in advance will need to register in-person on the sign in sheet upon arrival at the Government Center prior to the start of the meeting. Once the meeting starts, registration will close.

All public comments, regardless of form, are subject to the County’s policy on public comments, including time limits.

Advanced registration closes at 12:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting.

During the Meeting

All attendees are asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Orders while attending the meeting. A mask will be provided to individuals who do not have one. Masks may be removed when speaking to the board.

Each speaker must address the board from the lectern and begin their remarks by stating their name, whether they are a resident of Union County, indicating the municipality within which they reside, if any, and stating the topic about which they intend to speak. Each speaker will have three (3) minutes to make remarks. A speaker may not yield any of his or her time to another speaker. Speakers must be courteous in their language and presentation. Restatements or repetitive comments by the same speaker, whether at the same or separate meetings, may be ruled out of order and terminated by the chair of the board. Personal attacks will not be tolerated. Speakers may leave written comments and/or supporting documents, if any, with the clerk to the board.

If speaking during informal comments rather than a public hearing, speakers may not discuss matters that are the subject of public hearings.

Provide Written Comments

Members of the public may provide written comments in advance of Board of Commissioners meetings. All comments should indicate the meeting and topic to which the comments are directed and include an address and phone number. While it is strongly recommended that written comments be received by the clerk to the board by 12:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting, all written comments must be received by the clerk within 24 hours after the meeting concludes.
