Union County Website Accessibility Commitment
Union County strives to ensure this website is accessible to individuals with disabilities. We use WCAG 2.2 and Section 508 guidelines, with support from a web accessibility evaluation tool, to create accessible web content. While accessibility is a top priority for us, we know that on a dynamic, frequently updated website we need to continually work to improve accessibility.
Accessibility Improvements
DocAccess
DocAccess makes PDFs easier for everyone to use by converting them into an accessible, easy-to-navigate transcript. This feature is especially helpful for people with disabilities—including those who are blind, have low vision, or have motor impairments—by improving compatibility with assistive technologies. Features include:
-
Content translation into 250 languages
-
Live visual interpretation
-
Interacting with the document by asking questions
-
Navigation with a clear document outline
-
Viewing content in a mobile-friendly format
To use DocAccess, simply toggle on the accessible transcript option anytime you open a PDF on our website.
Overlay Widget
In order to bring important and immediate improvement to our website’s accessibility, we have applied an overlay widget to all pages that assists users with font size, text spacing, contrast, and more. Site users can access this widget by clicking on the small green icon in the left corner to customize their website viewing experience.
Chat Feature
Our chat feature, Sprout, will answer resident questions and needs by translating our website content in 71 languages. Click on the leaf icon in the bottom right corner to interact with Sprout.
Additionally, as we strive to continue to update our website's accessibility, we are working toward these enhancements:
-
Provide training and education on accessibility guidelines and standards for Union County employees who contribute website content
-
Execute an extensive manual website audit with support from a third-party vendor
-
Audit all PDFs on the website to review accessibility
-
Add closed captioning to Board of Commissioners meetings that are streamed live
