Who is eligible?

WIC is available to:

  • Pregnant women
  • Breastfeeding and postpartum women
  • Infants
  • Children up to age 5

To participate, these persons must:

  • Live in North Carolina
  • Have a family income below 185% of the Federal Poverty Limit (see the table below)

    NOTE: A person receiving Medicaid, Work First Families Assistance (TANF), or assistance from the NC Food and Nutrition Services automatically meets the income eligibility requirement.
  • Be at nutritional risk, as determined by a nutritionist at the WIC office, at no cost to the participant.
