To refer a veteran to Union County VTC, complete this referral form.

After reviewing the referral, the VTC coordinator will reach out to the potential participant and his/her attorney to gather additional information and schedule an eligibility assessment.

Local veterans are needed to volunteer as mentors to support veterans participating in the treatment-based program. It's an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of fellow service members. Volunteer mentors serve as advocates, allies, and confidants. They help participants navigate the criminal justice process, connect with Veterans Affairs resources, and stay motivated to reach their goals.

Responsibilities of mentors include:

• Connecting with their mentee every week, either by phone or in person.
• Providing an informal report to the Mentor Coordinator every two weeks before court.
• Being reasonably available, which may include evenings and weekends.
• Committing to at least one year of service as a mentor.

To be eligible to mentor, you must:

• Be a veteran of any branch of the U.S. military including the National Guard and Reserves.
• Have an honorable, general, medical, or similar discharge.
• Not be on any type of criminal justice supervision including (but not limited to) probation or pretrial.
• Not have any pending criminal charges besides minor traffic infractions.
• Not have any criminal arrests within the past 12 months, regardless of case disposition.
• Not have any illegal drug or excessive alcohol usage within the past 12 months.
• Submit to a background check.
