Annual Property Tax Bills to Be Mailed in August

The tax bills are mailed to the property owner as of Jan. 1, 2026, most current owner of record, or to the mortgage companies that escrow property taxes if the lender has requested the bill. Tax bills are available online for convenient access. 

USPS Processing Changes: Effective December 24, 2025, changes to United States Postal Service (USPS) processing may result in mail being postmarked later than expected. To avoid penalties, please mail tax payments well before the deadline or use another payment method to ensure timely payment. Read the full notice regarding USPS changes.

Tax Rate. The County tax rate for fiscal year 2026-2027 is 43.42 cents per $100 assessed valuation. View Union County budget information.

Due Date. Property taxes are due Sept. 1, 2026. To avoid interest charges, property tax payments must be paid on or before Jan. 5, 2027.

Late Payments. Payments postmarked after Jan. 5, 2027, will be charged a 2% penalty for the month of January and an additional three-fourths of 1% every month thereafter, until the bill is paid in full, including interest and fees. All unpaid taxes are subject to advertisement in the local newspaper, and an additional advertising fee will be added to each bill.

Payment Assistance. If you need assistance paying your annual tax bill beyond the four payment vouchers included in tax bills this year, arrangements must be made with the Tax Administration Office no later than Dec. 15, 2026. The first payment is required at the time of the arrangement. For more information on payment plans, call the Tax Administration Office at 704-283-3848.

Payment Vouchers. This payment option enables property owners to split the total cost of their tax payments into four equal amounts due at four separate times in September, October, November and December 2026. The vouchers are automatically included in all non-escrowed tax bills for fiscal year 2026-2027. For more information, call the Tax Administration Office at 704-283-3848.

Consolidated Bills. Residents of Fairview, Hemby Bridge, Lake Park, Marshville, Marvin, Mineral Springs, Stallings, Waxhaw, Wesley Chapel and Wingate will receive one tax bill that includes both county and municipal taxes. The partnership with these municipalities provides their residents with one point of contact for all property tax questions and concerns.

Payment options. There are several ways to pay your tax bill:

  • Mail: Mail your check using the return envelope in your tax bill.

  • In person: Pay by cash, check, or credit card at the Tax Collector’s Office on the first floor of the Union County Government Center, 500 N. Main St., Suite 119, Monroe, NC 28112. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Drop Box: Use the drop box located on Stewart St. Extension behind the Historic Post Office

  • Phone: Call 855-497-0718 to process e-checks, credit and debit card payments. Additional processing charges will apply. Please have your account information available when calling.
