Union County is alerting property owners, homebuilders and other members of the development community of recent scam attempts to solicit payments using the County's name. The recent scam attempts have referenced Property Identification Numbers (PINs), project names, and invoice numbers; some of the fake invoices have included poor reproductions of the Union County seal. The scam attempts indicate that customers should reply to the email to receive instructions to make payment via wire transfer. These invoices are fraudulent. 

"Protecting the integrity of our permitting process and maintaining the public's trust are top priorities," said Mark Griffin, Building Code Enforcement Director. "We want the public to be fully aware of these scam attempts and to have the information they need to verify information from our organization. While there have only been a few scam attempts to date, we are advising our customers to be on alert and to use the Evolve platform and to contact our staff if they have any questions." 

Evolve is the online permitting portal used by several County departments: Building Code Enforcement, Environmental Health, Fire Marshal's Office, Planning, and Union County Water (fees associated with New Development, not monthly water bill payments). 

All fees for projects submitted to Union County will be clearly shown in our project portal, Evolve. If you have submitted a project through our Evolve system, please log in to your Evolve account and select Online Payments to view outstanding invoices for your account.
