From calling on individuals to dispose of trash responsibly to providing opportunities for groups to participate in community clean-up events, Union County Solid Waste welcomes everyone in the County’s ongoing efforts to combat litter.

The Union County Library has become a partner in this work by becoming a designated check-out location for Union County Solid Waste’s Litter Loaner Kits. Union County Solid Waste unveiled these kits in 2024, and due to their popularity, the Union County Library has made them more accessible than ever. Each kit contains everything you need to host a safe and successful community cleanup event, including:

  • safety vests;
  • litter grabbers;
  • disposable gloves; and
  • trash bags.

After your clean-up event, drop off the bags of litter for free disposal at any Union County Solid Waste convenience center or the landfill during the regular hours listed for each site. For larger clean-up events, volunteers may also inquire about the option to leave bags of litter at the roadside for county staff to collect.

Whether you're planning a neighborhood cleanup day, a school project, or a service event with your club, these kits are free to use and available in limited supplies for check out at all library locations. Kits may be held for two weeks before returning the safety vests and litter grabbers in their carrying case to any Union County Library location. The kits must be brought inside to be returned and must not be returned using book drops located outside of a library location.

The kits available at library locations are best for smaller clean-up events. For larger groups, contact Union County Solid Waste directly at 704-296-4213 or visit this page
