Post Date:06/15/2026 8:45 AM

A magnifying glass looking over a map.Union County residents now have a way to experience local attractions without paying admission through the Union County Library Explore Pass program. These passes allow eligible library cardholders to reserve free admission passes to several popular destinations across Union County. Need a library card? Start the process online or visit your nearest Union County Library location.

Residents can reserve passes online through the library’s Explore Pass portal by selecting an attraction, choosing a date and logging in with their library card number and PIN. Once booked, passes are delivered by email and must be presented at the attraction on the selected date. Passes are limited; reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Most passes are available once every 365 days per user.

Participating attractions include:

  • Cane Creek Park near Waxhaw, where visitors can enjoy swimming, pedal boats, and miniature golf for up to six people
  • The Dowd Center Theatre in downtown Monroe offers admission for up to four guests to films and performing arts events;
  • Kate’s Skating Rink in Indian Trail;
  • The Monroe Aquatics & Fitness Center in Monroe;
  • The Monroe Science Center in downtown Monroe, offering hands-on educational experiences for children and adults.

“We’re excited to offer residents a way to explore and enjoy the amazing attractions available right here in Union County,” said Danielle Carlton, Community Engagement Librarian. “The Explore Pass program helps remove barriers while encouraging families to discover new experiences in their own community.”

The Explore Pass continues to expand, and the Library is encouraging local business owners interested in participating to email Danielle Carlton for more information.
