Families across Union County are invited to “Unearth a Story” this summer through the Union County Library’s annual Summer Reading Challenge, running June 8 through Aug. 1. The program encourages children, teens and adults to stay engaged in reading and activities during the summer months while earning prizes along the way.
Pre-register online now or in-person beginning Monday, June 8 at any Union County Library location. Everyone who registers will receive a prize and readers can track their progress digitally or use a paper reading log available at library locations.
Throughout the summer, participants will log their reading time and complete activities to earn additional prizes and entries into grand-prize drawings. Completed reading logs must be returned by Saturday, Aug. 1, to qualify for prize opportunities. Registration prizes and tickets can be redeemed at local library branches starting Monday, June 8.
The Summer Reading Program is open to all age groups, with separate activities, point systems and prizes tailored for children, teens and adults.
"Summer Reading is designed to promote literacy, lifelong learning and engagement during the summer break," said Lindsey Shuford, Assistant Director of Library Services.
The program is made possible in part through support from the Friends of the Library, whose sponsorship helps fund presentations, educational workshops, and three annual author events offered by the library system. Community members interested in supporting library programs can learn more about becoming a Friend of the Library online.
