Union County Social Services is sharing a request for public comment on behalf of the NC Department of Health and Human Services. Each year, North Carolina seeks approval to use a portion of Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funds for weatherization services. This year, NCDHHS is requesting a federal waiver to spend up to 25% of the total LIHEAP allocation on weatherization, up from the standard 15% threshold. Weatherization is the process of making a home more energy-efficient, safe, healthy, and comfortable.
Federal requirements call for public review and comment before this waiver is submitted.
How to participate:
- Review the documents posted below during the week of May 21–29, 2026.
- Attend the public webinar on Monday, June 1, 2026, which is open to all members of the public, for an overview of the Weatherization Program and the purpose of the waiver.
- Submit your comments by emailing your attendance and/or comment sheet to Jasmyne.Simmons@dhhs.nc.gov no later than June 2, 2026.
