Register of Deeds Encourages Early Passport Application Ahead of Spring Break

With spring break just around the corner, the Register of Deeds office is reminding residents that now is the time to check your passport and apply early or renew if needed.

The Register of Deeds office serves as an official passport acceptance facility, helping residents submit U.S. passport applications. As travel plans ramp up for spring break and summer vacation, walk-ins may fill quickly, and processing times may increase. The Register of Deeds office does not accept appointments; walk-ins are first-come, first-serve. Residents applying for a first-time passport, a passport for a minor, or a replacement passport for a lost or expired passport must apply in person at the Register of Deeds Office. Applicants should bring a completed passport application, proof of U.S. citizenship and valid photo ID. Passport photos are able to be taken during your walk-in for $15 per applicant. For payment, please bring a personal check or money order for the passport application only. Card and cash are accepted for other services.

Routine passport processing can take several weeks, and delays are possible during peak travel seasons. We encourage travelers with spring break plans to apply for a passport as soon as possible to avoid last-minute stress. For office hours, walk-in information, and a full checklist of required documents, residents should visit the Register of Deeds website or contact them directly at 704-282-0216. Planning ahead can help to ensure smooth travels when spring break arrives.
