Union County Transportation Featured in National Magazine

""Union County Transportation (UCT) is getting national attention! The department was recently featured in Business View Magazine, highlighting its commitment to connecting residents across Union County to essential destinations, from medical appointments and jobs to grocery stores and schools.

The Business View feature celebrates several major milestones for UCT, including:

  • Technology upgrades that improve efficiency and reliability for scheduling rides.
  • Fleet safety investments, including new lighting, vehicle cameras, and propane-powered vehicles that reduce fuel costs.
  • Facility enhancements that create a new driver’s hub for staff to rest, recharge and collaborate.
  • Community-centered service, where every driver is trained not only in safety but also in compassion, making sure riders feel cared for every step of the way.

“Our County is about 640 square miles,” said Theresa Torres, Union County's Transportation Director. “We transport over 400 passengers each day using about 25 vehicles. We travel all over Union County.”

You’ve likely seen UCT’s colorful transit vans around the County and wondered, Can I ride? The answer is a resounding yes — UCanGo! Union County offers transportation services to all residents aged 16 and older, as well as to children under 16 when accompanied by a parent or guardian. To ride, residents can complete an application online or by phone, then schedule weekday trips.

For many residents, this service is more than transportation — it’s independence. Riders can schedule trips for healthcare, work, or shopping and enjoy safe, accessible, curb-to-curb service from caring drivers. UCT provides scheduled rides for a wide range of passengers, including those with mobility challenges, special needs, older adults, individuals commuting to work, and the general public.

Transportation services are provided at a nominal cost, with many expenses covered through County and grant funding. Trip costs vary based on registration time and trip type.
