The Union County Fire Marshal's Office has been awarded the Agency of the Year honor by Safe Kids Union County, recognizing the Office's outstanding commitment to community fire safety, prevention and education.

The Fire Marshal's Office was nominated for its exceptional efforts to engage and protect some of the community's most vulnerable populations. This year, the Office partnered with the Union County Library to host children's fire-safety book readings and deliver senior-focused cooking and fire-safety presentations - two initiatives designed to reach age groups at higher risk of fire-related injury.

Additionally, in close collaboration with Union County Public Communications, the Office created impactful social media content and educational videos to expand public awareness. A standout project was a video highlighting the importance of school fire inspections and featuring an interview with a survivor of the tragic Our Lady of Lourdes school fire. The video underscored the lifesaving importance of preventive inspections and community preparedness.

"Being recognized as Agency of the Year is an honor for our entire team," said Fire Marshal Jon Williams. "Our mission is to protect lives through education, prevention, and strong partnerships, and this award reflects the dedication of everyone we work with to keep Union County safe."

"Our Fire Marshal's Office continues to elevate community safety," said Deputy County Manager Patrick Niland. "I'm excited to see their hard work, dedication and innovative outreach receive well-deserved recognition."

Safe Kids Union County, led by Atrium Health Union, provides programs and services that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries. Through coordinated efforts, including car-seat checks, safety workshops, and sports clinics, the coalition works to keep children safe and supported.
