Union County Water Maintenance Supervisor Adam Baker is the fall 2025 recipient of Union County Government's Caught in the Act Award for his exceptional dedication, problem-solving, and leadership. The Caught in the Act Award recognizes employees who demonstrate extraordinary commitment by going above and beyond their responsibilities to make a difference.
Over a four-month period, Baker played a key role in diagnosing and resolving an issue with the utility’s radio telemetry system, which impacted operations at remote sewer and water pump stations, as well as water tanks. The outage necessitated daily manual checks and extended on-site hours to maintain proper system function, resulting in significant operational challenges. Through persistence and innovation, Adam led troubleshooting efforts, marshaled resources, and developed a reliable and cost-effective solution. Along the way, he mastered new technology, guided his team, and implemented workarounds that restored automation and improved efficiency.
“Adam truly demonstrated his dedication to Union County Water and to his team,” wrote Chris Clark, Director of Water & Wastewater Operations, in his nomination of Baker. “We should all be proud of the excellent work that Adam and his team have performed. I am grateful to have such an excellent manager on our staff in Operations.”
County Manager Brian Matthews echoed the praise when the management team surprised Baker with the award at the Water Operations Center on Nov. 19, 2025. "Adam’s leadership and determination show the innovation and teamwork that move our organization forward," Matthews said.
As the recipient of this quarterly Award, Baker receives a $250 bonus and an extra day off in recognition of his outstanding service. He is also eligible for the annual Caught in the Act Employee of the Year Award.
