Every November, Union County Social Services takes time to celebrate National Adoption Month, an annual observance to honor the love, patience and strength of families who open their hearts and homes to children in foster care.

So far this year, Union County Social Services has celebrated 12 successful adoptions, each one representing a story of perseverance, healing and belonging.

While adoption is a beautiful outcome, it’s only one part of the journey. The heart of foster care is about stability and reunification, helping children feel safe while their families work toward being together again. Sometimes, that journey may end in adoption, but often it begins with compassionate foster parents willing to provide care when it’s needed most.

“We have approximately 160 children in foster care right now,” shared Keith Rorie, Union County Social Worker. “That number can fluctuate, but the need is constant. We’re always looking for families who can welcome children into their homes and help them find stability."

“When people ask, ‘What if I get too attached?’ I tell them, if you get too attached, you’re doing it right," said foster parent Cindy Goydich. "These children are looking for love and compassion. That’s exactly what they need.”

Union County Social Services supports families every step of the way, from training and licensing to ongoing guidance and community connection. Families come from all walks of life, but what unites them is a shared commitment to providing safety, stability and hope for children when they need it most.

 

As National Adoption Month reminds us, every child deserves a place to belong, and every family has the power to make a difference.
