MONROE, N.C. (Aug. 13, 2025) – Four overflows within the Union County sanitary sewer system on Monday, Aug. 11 resulted in an estimated 19,265 gallons of wastewater entering Crooked Creek. The sanitary sewer overflows occurred near 4015 Sardis Church Rd. in Monroe.
The overflows were not of the magnitude to cause immediate danger to the health of residents or the environment. All pipes, pumps and equipment were operating properly prior to the overflows. Staff determined that the overflows were due to heavy rain.
Per regulatory requirements, the overflow has been reported to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.
