To enhance customer service and safety for visitors and employees, Union County is conducting a renovation project to improve the entrance and first-floor corridor of the Government Center. Located at 500 N. Main Street in downtown Monroe, Union County's Government Center serves as the primary hub for County services.

The main entrance to this facility from Main Street Plaza will be closed throughout the six-month construction project, which is expected to continue through January 2026. All visitors to the Government Center will enter and exit the facility through a temporary entrance on the ground floor, accessible via the rear of the building off N. Church St.

All current security protocols will remain in place, with the security desk relocated to the ground floor entrance to assist visitors with entry into the facility. Wayfinding signage both outside and inside the Government Center will help visitors navigate the facility via the temporary entrance.

The rear parking lot adjacent to the Government Center includes accessible parking spaces; additional accessible parking spaces are available throughout downtown Monroe. 

All County services will remain operational throughout this project. County residents are also encouraged to explore the services available online via the county website, including online bill pay for Union County Water or Tax Administration, services with the Register of Deeds Office, applying for building permits or employment with Union County, viewing agendas for board meetings or information about the Board of County Commissioners, and other helpful services.  

Upon completion of the project, the first-floor entrance and corridor will feature a more secure and updated design. Thank you for your patience during this critical project.
