INDAN TRAIL, N.C. (May 13, 2025) –

An overflow within the Union County sanitary sewer system on Monday, May 12 resulted in an estimated 19,950 gallons of wastewater entering Crooked Creek. The sanitary sewer overflows occurred near 4015 Sardis Church Road in Indian Trail.

The overflow began at approximately 4 p.m. on Monday, May 12 and stopped by approximately 8:45 p.m. on Monday, March 12.

The overflow was not of the magnitude to cause immediate danger to the health of residents or the environment. All pipes, pumps and equipment were operating properly prior to the overflow. Staff determined that the overflow was the result of significant rain, leading to inflow and infiltration into the wastewater collection system.

Per regulatory requirements, the overflow has been reported to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.

For more information, residents and customers may call Union County Water at 704-296-4210.
