INDAN TRAIL, N.C. (Feb. 14, 2025) – Overflows within the Union County sanitary sewer system on Wednesday, Feb. 12, and Thursday, Feb. 13, resulted in an estimated 58,900 gallons of wastewater entering Crooked Creek. The sanitary sewer overflows occurred near 4015 Sardis Church Road in Indian Trail.
The overflows began at approximately 5:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12; staff worked to monitor the situation until the overflows were fully contained at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13.
The overflows were not of the magnitude to cause immediate danger to the health of residents or the environment. All pipes, pumps and equipment were operating properly prior to the overflow. Staff determined that the overflows were the result of significant rain, leading to inflow and infiltration into the wastewater collection system.
Per regulatory requirements, the overflow has been reported to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.
