MONROE, N.C. (Jan. 21, 2025) – Due to worsening wintry road conditions and freezing temperatures, all Union County Government facilities and offices will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- All Library branches will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The library's digital resources are always available online.
- Cane Creek Park's day-use area will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The campground is currently closed for regular maintenance.
- All Transportation services will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Riders may leave reservation requests on the 24-hour voicemail.
- The Union County landfill will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Waste and recycling centers are closed on Wednesdays.
- All home deliveries in the Senior Nutrition program are canceled on Wednesday, Jan. 22, and congregate meal sites are closed. Clients have been provided shelf-stable meals to have available in case of emergency cancelations.
- Environmental Health's Food Safety Forum is canceled. We will share details when the event is rescheduled.
- The Register of Deeds' office (marriage licenses, passports, land records, etc.) will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
All other County services not specifically listed above will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Essential public safety services remain operational around the clock, including the Sheriff's Office and Emergency Services teams. All normal operations are expected to resume on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 8 a.m.
“Our top priority is the safety of our employees and residents,” said County Manager Brian Matthews. "With these weather conditions, we have made the decision to close County offices to ensure everyone can stay off the roads and remain safe. We encourage residents to take precautions and stay informed about the weather updates."
Union County Public Schools announced schools will be closed for students on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Employees will operate on an optional telework day. Visit the district's website for the latest operational updates.
Court schedules at the Union County Judicial Center have been canceled for Wednesday, Jan. 22. Magistrate(s) will preside over bond hearings and restraining orders. However, the Clerk's office will be open for filing. For more information, visit the NC Courts website.
