Union County Government Facilities Adjust Hours Due to Winter Weather

MONROE, N.C. (Jan. 21, 2025) –  Due to extreme cold temperatures and the potential for slick roads, all Union County Government facilities and offices will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, Jan. 22, opening at 10 a.m. Note: All Library branches will close early on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 5 p.m.   

  • All Library branches will reopen at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The library's digital resources are always available online.
  • Cane Creek Park's day-use area will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The campground is currently closed for regular maintenance. 
  • All Transportation services will operate on a modified schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Riders may leave reservation requests on the 24-hour voicemail.
  • The Union County landfill will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Waste and recycling centers are closed on Wednesdays.
  • All home deliveries in the Senior Nutrition program are canceled on Wednesday, Jan. 22, and congregate meal sites are closed. Clients have been provided shelf-stable meals to have available in case of emergency cancelations.
  • The Register of Deeds' office (marriage licenses, passports, land records, etc.) will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. 

All other County services not specifically listed above will open to the public beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Essential public safety services remain operational around the clock, including the Sheriff's Office and Emergency Services teams.

“We appreciate understanding as we prioritize the safety of our visitors, customers and employees,” said County Manager Brian Matthews.
