Union County Government Facilities to Close Early on Friday, Jan. 10

MONROE, N.C. (Jan. 9, 2025) – Due to the forecasted impacts from winter weather, including snow and icy conditions, all Union County Government facilities will close early at noon on Friday, Jan. 10. Facilities that are usually open on Saturdays will be closed on Saturday, Jan. 11.

  • All Library branches are closing at 12 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10. All Library branches will be closed all day on Saturday, Jan. 11. The library's digital resources are always available online.
  • Cane Creek Park will close at 12 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10. The park will be closed all day on Saturday, Jan. 11.
  • All Transportation services will operate on a modified schedule on Friday, Jan. 10. Riders may leave reservation requests on the 24-hour voicemail.
  • The Union County landfill will close at 12 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10. All County Solid Waste sites will be closed all day on Saturday, Jan. 11. 
  • All home deliveries in the Senior Nutrition program will be delivered as scheduled for Friday, Jan. 10. There will be no changes to Senior Nutrition services.

All other County services not specifically listed above will close to the public beginning at noon on Friday. Essential public safety services will remain operational, including the Sheriff's Office and Emergency Services teams.

If you need to complete County-related business, we recommend visiting facilities before noon on Friday or utilizing online services where available. 

“We apologize for any inconvenience regarding impacted services,” said County Manager Brian Matthews. “The safety of our residents, customers, and employees is our top priority, and we appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation.” 

Court schedules at the Union County Judicial Center have been canceled for Friday, Jan. 10. However, the Clerk's office will be open for filing. For more information, visit the NC Courts website
