New “No Show” Policy for Union County Transportation Services Starting August 1, 2024

Post Date:07/02/2024 2:36 PM

Starting August 1, 2024, Union County Transportation (UCT) will enforce a new “No Show” policy for all passenger trips. Under this new policy, passengers who fail to meet their scheduled rides without notifying dispatch in advance will incur a $10 penalty for each missed ride. This policy is designed to address the significant costs and delays caused by unattended ride appointments, which impact service availability and operational efficiency.

The policy stipulates additional penalties for repeat offenders, including a tiered suspension system. Passengers who accumulate three no-shows within any 90-day period will be suspended from transportation services for 30 days. Further infractions will lead to longer suspensions, with a fourth offense resulting in permanent suspension from the service.

“We understand that everyone has unexpected changes, but frequent no-shows create challenges that affect all passengers,” said Theresa Torres, Director of Transportation. “We’ve found it necessary to implement these measures to ensure our services run as smoothly as possible for everyone involved.”

In addition to the no-show fee, the policy includes procedures for notifying passengers of their infractions. A First Warning Notice will be mailed to the address on file of the rider after the first missed appointment, and a Suspension Notice will be issued if penalties accrue. Riders are strongly encouraged to communicate with UCT to prevent penalties and suspensions.

Passengers are encouraged to review the new policy details. With this policy, UCT hopes to foster a more accountable and efficient service environment, ensuring resources are used effectively to benefit the entire community.

Transportation services are available to Union County residents through limited NCDOT funded grant programs or through sponsorship of a local human service agency. Cost varies depending on time of resistration and type of trip scheduled. Visit our Transportation page for details on how to register and book a reservation.
