Union County Seeks Citizen Input on 2016-2020 Consolidated Plan and 2016 Annual Action Plan

Posted on 03/14/16

Monday, March 14, 2016, Monroe, NC - Union County is requesting citizen participation in the preparation of its 5-Year Consolidated Plan and 2016 Annual Action Plan (2016AAP). These annual documents are required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in order to receive federal assistance to address housing, economic development, and community development issues. Citizen participation is needed to discuss how Union County can best serve our community.

Participants will discover how funds may be utilized in the community and will have the opportunity to offer suggestions for new programs or projects. For Program Year 2016, Union County anticipates to receive an allocation of $759,820 in funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

The process of developing these plans gives Union’s communities a structure for identifying gaps and opportunities for collaboration within the County’s current service delivery system.

The County will hold a public hearing to obtain input on housing and community development needs on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Board Room on the first floor of the Union County Government Center located at 500 N. Main Street in Monroe, N.C. All meeting facilities are handicapped accessible. If you have non-English speaking needs or if you need additional information, please contact Richard Matens, Executive Director of Human Services at 704-296-4303 or Michael James, Assistant to the County Manager at 704- 283-3630.
