August 8, 2016, Monroe, NC – Union County Emergency Services, Emergency Management will conduct a Full-Scale Exercise on Tuesday, Aug. 9 from approximately 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Numerous county departments and agencies will participate in the exercise along with private, non-government partners and local volunteers.
Three locations within the county will enact role players to add realism to the exercise - Monroe Airport, Monroe High School and the County’s Emergency Operations Center.
Full-Scale Exercises play a vital role in Union County preparedness by enabling community stakeholders to test and validate plans and capabilities, and identify both capability gaps and areas for improvement. The Full-Scale Exercise provides a low-risk environment to test capabilities, familiarize personnel with roles and responsibilities, and foster meaningful interaction and communication across organizations.
“Exercises bring together and strengthen the whole community in its efforts to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from all hazards,” said Emergency Management Division Director Donald Moye. “Overall, Union County’s Full-Scale Exercise is cost-effective and considered a useful tool that will help us practice and refine our collective capacity to achieve the core capabilities for keeping Union County citizens safe.”
