Sheriff’s Office Implements New Online Concealed Handgun Permit System

Posted on July 24, 2015

Sheriff Eddie Cathey and the Union County Sheriff’s Office, in an ongoing effort to improve efficiency and provide better customer service to the citizens of Union County, are happy to announce a new online application system for Concealed Handgun Permits. This new system will be available starting August 3, 2015.

The new system will provide the following features to those applying for Concealed Handgun Permits:

    • Anyone with internet access can apply and make payment for a concealed handgun permit from home or via a smartphone, at their convenience, 24 hours a day.
    • Applicants will be able to schedule or reschedule their fingerprint appointment online
    • Applicants are notified of the receipt of their online application, the need for additional documentation and the issuance or denial of the permit via automated emails, phone calls and text messages.
    • All orders are given a unique order number to help with reference and tracking.
    • Applicants can log into the Sheriff’s website and check the status of their order using their order number, email address and password (created by the applicant during the application process).
    • Once the application is approved, the applicant must pick up the permit(s) in person at 3344 Presson Rd. Monroe, NC 28112. The applicant must present his/her valid NC issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or ID card which matches the name and address provided on the application.

The online handgun purchase permit system can be located at www.ucso.us. Applicants should click on the link titled “Concealed Handgun Permits” on the right side of the page. There will be a link which takes applicants to the web page where they can easily complete the online application. The same Federal and State laws will apply to applications completed online.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office hopes this new system will make the application process easier and more convenient while at the same time allow for faster processing times.

Point of contact for the press release is Lieutenant Warren Stephens, 704-283-3585.
