Public Works has Completed Water Quality Preventative Maintenance

Posted on 03/24/15

March 24, 2015, Monroe, NC – Union County Public Works and Lancaster County Water & Sewer District have completed the Water Quality Preventative Maintenance Program and on Monday switched back to using chloramines to disinfect water at the Catawba River Water Treatment Plant. Anson County Public Works will switch back to using chloramines on Thursday, March 26.

On Feb. 23, Union County Public Works, Anson County Public Works, and Lancaster County Water & Sewer District began a routine Water Quality Preventative Maintenance Program that involved temporarily switching water disinfectants from chloramines to free chlorine in order to optimize water quality within the distribution systems.

Now that the water distribution systems have been completely and adequately treated and flushed, the disinfection process will be switched back to chloramines and reintroduced into the water distribution systems.
