Posted on 06/05/15

June 5, 2015, Monroe, NC – The Union County Board of Commissioners on Thursday reappointed John Petoskey to a four-year term as Tax Administrator.

Like many larger jurisdictions, Union County has consolidated the offices of Tax Collector and Tax Assessor into a professional Tax Administrator position. According to North Carolina General Statutes, the Tax Assessor is appointed by the Board of Commissioners for a term of not less than two nor more than four years. Petoskey has served as Union County Tax Administrator since 2003.

Petoskey was initially appointed to fill an unexpired term through June 2005, at which time he was appointed to a four-year term. He was reappointed to a two-year term in 2009 and to a four-year term in 2011. He was named Tax Assessor of the Year in 2010 by the North Carolina Association of Assessing Officers
