September 13, 2016, Monroe, NC – Union County Emergency Communications Shift Supervisor Jason Gurian has been appointed to serve on the National Fire Protection Association’s Committee for Public Safety Professional Qualifications.
This is a huge honor for Jason as there are only 10 people on this committee from all over the country.
The committee defines the minimum job performance qualifications of persons in specific positions within the communications field, such as public safety telecommunicator, communications training officer, communications supervisor, quality assurance/improvement personnel, communications training coordinator, communications center manager, and logistics section communications unit leader.
These qualifications are then set forth as standards and are implemented by all Public Safety Answering Points in the country. This approach saves administrative costs and refines the lines of duties and responsibilities and ultimately sets the gold standard for emergency communications centers, which are the first line of defense.
