March 20, 2017 Monroe, NC – The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting has been awarded to Union County’s Administrative Services Finance Division by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Popular Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2016.
The award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is a prestigious national award recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government popular reports.
In order to receive this award, a government must publish a Popular Annual Financial Report whose contents conform to the program's standards of creativity, presentation, understandability and reader appeal.
An Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is valid for a period of one year only. Union County has received a Popular Award for the last three consecutive years (for fiscal years ended June 30, 2014, 2015 and 2016).
With the receipt of the award, Union County remains one of five governmental entities in the state of North Carolina that has met the requirements to receive all three GFOA awards in the same year.
