Commissioners Receive Financial Report

Posted on 11/07/15

November 7, 2016, Monroe, NC — Commissioners on Monday received a presentation on the County’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

Cherry Bekaert, LLP, a firm of licensed certified public accountants, has issued an unmodified opinion on Union County’s financial statements for the year ended June 30, 2016. The audit was designed to meet the requirements of the Federal Single Audit Act Amendment of 1996, as well as the State Single Audit Act, N.C.G.S. 159-34. The reports required by these Acts are submitted as separate reports, which include the schedules of financial assistance, findings and questioned costs, and the independent auditor's report on internal control and compliance.

The following is an excerpt from the Report of Independent Auditor:

"In our opinion, based on our audit and the report of the other auditor, the financial statements referred to above present fairly, in all material respects, the respective financial position of the governmental activities, the business-type activities, each major fund, and the aggregate remaining fund information of the County as of June 30, 2016, and the respective changes in financial position, and where applicable, cash flows thereof and the respective budgetary comparison for the General Fund for the year then ended in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America."
