April 20, 2015, Monroe, NC – The Union County Board of Commissioners on Monday adopted proclamations declaring May 8 – 16 as Police Week in Union County and May as Older Americans Month in Union County.
The U.S. Congress and President of the United States have designated May 15 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, and the week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week.
The Police Week proclamation calls upon all citizens of Union County to observe Friday, May 15 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day in honor of 127 law enforcement officers who, through their courageous deeds, have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community in 2014, one of those Sergeant Jeffrey Greene with the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
The Older Americans Month proclamation urges every resident to take time in May to celebrate older adults and the people who serve and support them as powerful and vital individuals who greatly contribute to the community.
