Carolina Waterfowl Rescue Beneficiary of Wild Turkey 5K

Register by March 31 to guarantee Unique 2017 T-shirt

Monroe, NC –Register for the Wild Turkey 5K Trail Run and Walk by March 31st and save five dollars in race fees and guarantee a commemorative t-shirt in your preferred size. The annual Wild Turkey 5K Trail Run and Walk will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in conjunction with the Union County Heritage Festival at the Union County Agricultural Center. Proceeds from the race benefit the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue. The race and festival are hosted by The Union County Extension Master Gardener Volunteers.

At 7:45 a.m. before the race, participants will have the opportunity to warm up with Enterprise Fitness. The 3.1 mile race begins at 8 a.m. rain or shine by the Master Gardeners’ teaching gardens and winds through native woodlands and across country fields. The course is chip timed by Vac n Dash. Volunteers of Carolina Waterfowl Rescue will be waiting at the finish line with a group of their feathered friends to thank you for your support. Immediately following the 5K, all race participants are invited to enjoy an after race party with refreshments, door prizes and an award ceremony. Awards will be given to the top 3 male and female winners overall, and the top 1 male and female of each age category.

Registration is available on-line at https://wildturkey5k.racesonline.com, or race day between 6:45 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. Entrance fees through March 31 are $20 per person and $10 for participants age 15 and under. After March 31, cost will be $25 and $15 respectively. There will be a free children’s fun run at 9:15 a.m. with prizes.

At the event, the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue will be collecting donations of items on their wish list. Some of the items needed by the rescue are bird seed, dry cat food, trash bags, dog and cat carriers, and medical supplies. A complete list is available on the website. Those who bring a donation, will receive a free raffle ticket to be used for a variety of prizes at the Heritage Festival Raffle.

Runners, walkers and families are all welcome to participate in the 5K and encouraged to stay and enjoy the festivities of the Union County Heritage Festival, 9:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m. Festivities include a vendor fair, the Master Gardeners Spring Plant Sale, garden, health, natural living and conservation themed activities and attractions, kids’ activities, food, live entertainment, garden talks and cooking demonstrations.

About the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue

The Carolina Waterfowl Rescue is a non-profit wildlife rescue organization located in Indian Trail, NC. CWR is run by federally-licensed migratory bird rehabilitators specializing in waterfowl, providing medical treatment and care to orphaned or injured wild birds and other animals.
