Candidate Filing for 2020 Primary Election

Primary Election VotingCandidate filing for the March 3, 2020 Primary Election begins Monday, December 2, 2019 at Noon and ends Friday, December 20, 2019 at Noon. Eligible candidates must be affiliated with a political party for at least 90 days prior to filing for candidacy in a partisan Primary Election.

Filing for the following offices will be held at the Union County Board of Elections, 316-B East Windsor St., Monroe, NC 28112:

Qualifications: At least 25 years of age by date of General Election, residence in North Carolina for two years prior to the General Election, resident in the district sought one year immediately prior to the General Election, a registered voter in the district sought and eligible to vote for the office

The filing fee must be paid by check or money order, unless the fee is $50 or less; in which case it may be paid in cash. No credit or debit cards will be accepted.

Filing for U.S. Congress and all Judicial Offices will be held at the North Carolina State Board of Elections, 430 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC 27699. However, pursuant to a Wake County Superior Court order, the State Board of Elections may not accept any candidate filings for the congressional primary until further order of the court.

If required, a second Primary will be held on April 21, 2020 (if no federal office on ballot) or May 12, 2020 (if federal office on ballot). For additional information, please contact the Union County Board of Elections at (704) 283-3809 or union.boe@unioncountync.gov.

Union County Soil and Water Candidate Filing begins Monday, June 8, 2020 at Noon and ends Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Noon at the Union County Board of Elections office. Filing fee is $5 and must be paid by cash or check.
